4 Ways to Improve Dry Skin

At one point or another, the majority of us have experienced dry skin. Whether your dryness is mainly during the winter, or if you deal with it year round, these 4 tips will have your skin feeling as hydrated as ever!

1. Skip the long, hot showers.

I know almost nothing feels better than taking a steamy, hot shower, but trust me, your skin really doesn't like you for it. The hot water strips your skin of its natural oil barrier, causing the tight and itchy feeling you have after showering, and resulting in dehydrated skin. Instead, try to turn the knob down to a lukewarm or even a cooler temperature, and also limit the length of your shower.

2. Moisturize while your skin is still damp.

Right after showering, apply moisturizer all over your body while your skin is still damp. This will help lock in moisture and hold onto it throughout the day or night (depending on when you shower).

3. Exfoliate.

If you're experiencing what looks like white flakes on your skin, a beneficial approach would be to exfoliate! This "flakiness" is caused by a buildup of dead skin cells that prevent any moisturizers from getting through. A way to minimize or prevent this buildup is by using an exfoliant to remove those dead cells, which will then allow for your moisturizer to penetrate more directly into your skin!

4. Plug in a humidifier.

Humidifiers are one of the best things you can use to help dry skin. During the winter, your skin suffers a lot from the cold & dry air, and when adding a humidifier to your room, you're adding moisture to the air that your skin desperately needs!
